Cork University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Medical Scientist, Staff Grade (Histopathology) to join its dynamic laboratory team. This permanent wholetime opportunity offers the chance to work in a leading acute teaching hospital within HSE South West. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic histopathology services that directly impact patient care across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- • Perform a broad range of histopathology laboratory investigations in accordance with national standards and best practice.
- • Process, embed, cut and stain tissue specimens accurately and efficiently.
- • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality management systems and accreditation standards.
- • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively.
- • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes.
- • Accurately record and report results using laboratory information systems.
- • Contribute to training, supervision and continuous professional development initiatives.
- • Adhere to all HSE health and safety policies and infection control procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- • Eligibility for registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist.
- • Recognised qualification in Medical Science (or equivalent) relevant to Histopathology.
- • Experience in a diagnostic histopathology laboratory setting is desirable.
- • Strong technical competency in tissue processing and staining techniques.
- • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- • Commitment to continuous professional development.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale: €44,831 – €74,404 (LSI applicable) in line with HSE Medical Scientist Grade 3875 pay scale.
