Job Overview
As a Senior Medical Scientist in Haematology, you will lead and support laboratory operations within a busy hospital environment, ensuring accurate and timely testing services. This position is central to maintaining clinical excellence and supporting multidisciplinary healthcare teams in Cork University Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise haematology laboratory services to ensure high standards of diagnostic testing
- Perform and validate complex laboratory analyses in accordance with best practice
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance protocols and accreditation standards
- Support and mentor junior laboratory staff and trainees
- Collaborate with clinicians to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality
- Participate in audits, service development, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Medical Science or equivalent
- Registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist
- Significant experience in haematology laboratory practice
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication abilities
- Commitment to quality standards and patient safety
- Desirable: Experience in a senior or specialist laboratory role
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale: €68,007 – €89,790 (incremental scale based on experience)
