Cork University Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Medical Scientist Specialist in Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing to join its Department of Clinical Microbiology. This permanent wholetime position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services within one of Ireland’s leading acute hospitals.
This Medical Scientist Specialist Cork University Hospital role is central to ensuring accurate antimicrobial testing, supporting clinical decision-making, and enhancing patient safety across the HSE South West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee specialised antimicrobial susceptibility testing in accordance with national and international standards.
- Ensure accuracy and quality in laboratory diagnostics within Clinical Microbiology.
- Interpret and validate complex microbiological results.
- Contribute to quality assurance, audit, and accreditation processes.
- Support clinical teams with expert microbiology advice relating to antimicrobial resistance.
- Participate in training, mentoring, and supervision of laboratory staff.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety and laboratory governance standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Eligibility for registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist.
- Significant postgraduate experience in Clinical Microbiology.
- Demonstrated expertise in antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale: €68,686 – €88,295 (Medical Scientist – Specialist Grade 3878 salary scale)
This is a Permanent Wholetime position within the HSE South West region.
