Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West & North West region, is inviting applications for a Paediatric Staff Nurse (Children’s) to join the Emergency Department. This is a permanent whole-time post offering excellent career development within one of Ireland’s busiest acute hospitals.

About the Role

As a Children’s Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will deliver high-quality, child-centred nursing care in a fast-paced acute care environment. This role requires a strong commitment to paediatric emergency nursing, clinical excellence, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to children and families in the Emergency Department.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate paediatric care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies and acute presentations.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with HSE policies.
  • Support families with compassionate communication and education.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with hospital standards.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Children’s Nurse with NMBI (Division of Children’s Nursing).
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in paediatric acute or emergency care.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Post-registration experience in an Emergency Department or Paediatric Acute Unit.
  • Additional training in resuscitation (PALS), triage, or paediatric emergency care.

  • Salary Scale (Staff Nurse – Children’s, Code 2136, March 2025): €36,919 – €54,928 per annum (13 points plus LSI).
