Job Overview
The HSE is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Scientist to join the Haematology Laboratory team in Sligo under campaign reference SLIGO0688. This permanent wholetime position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services within the HSE West and North West region.
This Senior Medical Scientist Haematology Sligo role is ideal for a professional with substantial laboratory experience who can demonstrate depth and breadth of expertise in Haematology activities relevant to the post.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the delivery of high-quality Haematology laboratory services in line with HSE standards
- Perform and oversee complex Haematology testing, analysis and result validation
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance protocols and accreditation standards
- Supervise and mentor Medical Scientists and laboratory support staff
- Participate in service development, audits and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure timely reporting of results
- Contribute to health and safety procedures within the laboratory environment
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Medical Science or equivalent
- CORU registration as a Medical Scientist (or eligibility for registration)
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Haematology laboratory activities
- Strong analytical, organisational and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Commitment to maintaining high professional and ethical standards

- Salary aligned with the HSE Senior Medical Scientist (Grade 3877) consolidated pay scale in accordance with public sector pay policy and February 2026 adjustments

Location & Employer Information
This position is based in Sligo, within the HSE West and North West health region, covering Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo and Galway.
