Job Overview
The Senior Registrar Psychiatry HSE West North West role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced medical professional to advance their career within Ireland’s public health service. Based across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, this fixed term wholetime position supports high-quality psychiatric care within the HSE West and North West region.
This post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and provides valuable experience within a dynamic multidisciplinary mental health service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Deliver high-quality inpatient and community-based psychiatric care.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary mental health teams.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff as required.
- Participate in clinical audits, service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to HSE governance standards.
- Participate in on-call rotas and service coverage as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration with the Irish Medical Council (essential).
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification (essential).
- Previous relevant experience in psychiatry at registrar level or higher.
- Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Own transport and full driver’s licence (essential as travel may be required).
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary Scale (Senior Registrar, Grade Code 1627) effective 1 February 2026: €83,017 – €101,603 per annum (7-point scale).
- Incremental progression in line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales.
- Fixed Term Wholetime contract.
- Public sector pension scheme and associated benefits.
- Annual leave and entitlements in accordance with HSE policies.
