Job Overview
Staff Midwife Jobs HSE West and North West offer an excellent opportunity to join a progressive maternity service delivering high-quality, woman-centred care. Based across Galway, Donegal, Mayo and Sligo, this role supports safe, evidence-based midwifery practice within acute hospital settings.
This position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers permanent and specified purpose contracts across multiple sites in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in line with professional standards
- Deliver safe, compassionate, woman-centred midwifery services
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary maternity teams
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records
- Adhere to HIQA, HSE and NMBI standards and guidelines
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and professional development activities
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligible for registration
- Demonstrated competence in maternity care practice
- Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced acute hospital environments
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale: €37,788 – €56,032 per annum (aligned to Staff Midwife Grade 2143 incremental scale).
Working hours are aligned to HSE contracts, including permanent wholetime, part-time and specified purpose arrangements. Shift patterns will be determined by service needs.

This Staff Midwife campaign covers multiple hospitals within the HSE West and North West region, including facilities in Galway, Donegal, Mayo and Sligo.
