Sligo University Hospital is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse (Children’s) to join its paediatric nursing team. This permanent opportunity offers the chance to deliver high-quality, family-centred care in a busy acute hospital setting within the HSE West and North West region.
The Staff Nurse Children’s Sligo role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and provides an excellent opportunity to build your nursing career within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective, and family-centred nursing care to children and young people in accordance with best practice standards.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans for paediatric patients.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with HSE policies.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with hospital guidelines and professional standards.
- Support and educate families regarding treatment plans, discharge planning, and ongoing care needs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Adhere to all HSE policies, procedures, and professional codes of practice.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a General Nurse with An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI), with relevant children’s nursing qualification/registration.
- Eligibility to practice in Ireland.
- Demonstrated experience or clinical placement in paediatric nursing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Flexibility to work across required shift patterns in an acute hospital setting.

- Salary aligned with the HSE Children Staff Nurse (Grade 2136) pay scale in accordance with the February 2026 Consolidated Salary Scales.
