Galway University Hospitals is seeking applications for the role of Supplementary Central Sterile Services Department (C.S.S.D.) Operative (Reference: CSSDSUP26). This opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers Fixed Term Wholetime and Permanent Wholetime contracts.
The CSSD Operative plays a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring the effective decontamination, sterilisation, and distribution of medical devices and equipment across Galway University Hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilisation, and distribution of medical devices in accordance with national and local standards.
- Operate and monitor sterilisation and decontamination equipment safely and effectively.
- Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of instruments and sets.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance processes and audits within the department.
- Support Endoscopy and other clinical departments as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the CSSD unit.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience working in Endoscopy, Decontamination, or CSSD relevant to the role.
- Strong understanding of sterilisation processes and infection control standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
- Flexibility to meet service needs.

- Salary aligned to HSE Consolidated Pay Scales for Grade 5785 – C.S.S.D. Operative (effective February 2026).
