Sligo University Hospital is recruiting a Grade V Staff Officer (Finance) on a permanent wholetime basis. This is an internal HSE competition offering a senior administrative role within a busy acute hospital finance function in the HSE West and North West region.

About the Role

The Grade V Staff Officer is a senior clerical and administrative grade within the HSE, providing operational and supervisory support within a defined functional area. In this post, the successful candidate will be assigned to the Finance department at Sligo University Hospital, contributing to the effective management of financial processes in a large acute hospital setting.

The role involves overseeing administrative functions, supervising staff at junior grades, and ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial information in accordance with HSE policies and procedures.

  • Supervise and support staff at Grade IV and below within the Finance department
  • Oversee day-to-day financial and administrative processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HSE financial regulations
  • Assist in the preparation, processing, and reconciliation of financial reports and records
  • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders on finance-related queries
  • Contribute to the management of payroll administration, accounts payable/receivable, and related functions as required
  • Implement and monitor administrative procedures in line with HSE policies
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and briefing material for senior management
  • Participate in service improvement and change management initiatives within the department
  • Comply with data protection, confidentiality, and information governance requirements

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Current employment with the HSE, TUSLA, a Section 38 agency, or another statutory health body (eligibility requirement — see above)
  • A minimum of two years’ satisfactory service at Grade IV (Clerical) or equivalent
  • Proven administrative and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience in a finance, payroll, or accounting administration environment is desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and financial management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage workloads effectively
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality public health services

Salary

€52,758 – €59,245 per annum (HSE Grade V Clerical scale, 5-point standard scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026). Long Service Increments of €61,174 and €63,110 apply after qualifying periods.
