Galway University Hospital is seeking an experienced Head of Security to provide strategic and operational leadership for all security services across the hospital campus. This senior management role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors in a complex acute healthcare environment.

The post holder will lead security operations, develop policy, and work closely with clinical, management, and external stakeholders to maintain a safe and resilient hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage all security functions across Galway University Hospital
• Develop, implement, and review security policies, procedures, and risk management plans
• Oversee incident response, investigations, and reporting processes
• Manage security staff, contractors, and resources to ensure effective 24/7 coverage
• Liaise with senior management, clinical leaders, An Garda Síochána, and external agencies
• Ensure compliance with HSE policies, health & safety legislation, and best practice standards
• Contribute to emergency planning, business continuity, and major incident preparedness
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Proven senior-level experience in security management within a large, complex organisation
• Demonstrated leadership, people management, and decision-making capability
• Strong knowledge of security risk management, incident control, and compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience in healthcare, public sector, or similarly regulated environments is highly desirable
• A flexible approach to working hours to ensure operational deadlines and service needs are met
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: HSE Clerical & Management Grade V (0566)
• Salary: In line with HSE consolidated salary scales (commensurate with experience)
• Contract: Permanent, whole-time
