An exciting secondment opportunity is available for an experienced Chief II Pharmacist to join the National Medication Safety Programme as a Medication Safety Specialist. This senior role contributes at national level to improving medication safety, quality, and patient outcomes across the Irish health service.

The post is offered on a grade-for-grade basis, maintaining existing terms and conditions, and allows flexibility around location with agreed availability for national meetings.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide expert leadership in medication safety initiatives at national level
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of medication safety strategies
• Analyse medication incidents and support system-wide learning
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary and cross-sector stakeholders
• Support the development of guidance, alerts, and safety communications
• Represent the programme at national meetings and forums
• Contribute to research, audit, and quality improvement projects
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
• Currently employed at Chief II Pharmacist grade (grade-to-grade requirement)
• Significant senior-level experience in pharmacy practice
• Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in medication safety and quality improvement
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively at national level
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: As per HSE Chief II Pharmacist consolidated salary scale (grade to grade)
• Contract: Whole-time specified purpose

Location & Employer Information
This is a national role with flexibility around location. A minimum level of availability is required at Dr Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin 8, and for relevant meetings in Dublin or other counties.
The role sits within the National Medication Safety Programme under HSE National Quality & Patient Safety, supporting safer medication use across all health services.
