The Health Service Executive is seeking an experienced Medication Safety Specialist Pharmacist (Chief II) to join the National Medication Safety Programme within National Quality & Patient Safety. This senior specialist role provides an opportunity to influence medication safety policy and practice at a national level, improving patient outcomes across the Irish health system.

This is an internal, grade-to-grade competition open to pharmacists currently employed as Chief II Pharmacists within the public health sector.


Key Responsibilities

• Provide national leadership on medication safety initiatives and strategy
• Support development, implementation, and evaluation of medication safety programmes
• Analyse medication incident data and lead learning and improvement actions
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders across acute and community services
• Contribute to national guidelines, policies, and safety alerts
• Support education, training, and communication on medication safety
• Represent the programme at national meetings and working groups


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
• Current employment as a Chief II Pharmacist within the HSE or eligible agencies
• Demonstrated expertise in medication safety and quality improvement
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
• Experience working at senior or national programme level (desirable)


Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Salary: In accordance with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales for Chief II Pharmacist (Grade 3271), including approved public service pay adjustments
• Working Hours: Wholetime, Monday to Friday
• Benefits include public service pension scheme, annual leave, and access to professional development
• Engagement in flexibility around location is possible, subject to agreement

• A minimum level of availability is required at Dr Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin 8, and for relevant meetings in Dublin or other counties
