University Hospital Limerick is seeking an experienced Principal Physicist to join its Acute Services team within the HSE Mid West region. This is a senior, permanent leadership role with responsibility for ionising radiation physics, dosimetry, and radiation safety across diagnostic and therapeutic services. The post offers an opportunity to influence clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and patient safety at a major teaching hospital.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert leadership in ionising radiation physics and radiation protection
• Act as Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for diagnostic radiology and imaging physics
• Deliver radiation dosimetry services and quality assurance programmes
• Advise on radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and best practice standards
• Support clinical teams in optimisation of patient and staff radiation exposure
• Contribute to service development, audits, and clinical governance initiatives
• Mentor and support junior physics staff within the department

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in ionising radiation physics and dosimetry
• Registration as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) with the Irish College of Physicists in Medicine (ICPM) in Diagnostic Radiology and Imaging Physics and/or Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics, or eligibility to apply within 12 months
• Registration as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), or eligibility to register within 12 months
• Proven leadership and professional judgement in a clinical healthcare environment
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Grade: Physicist – Principal (3816)
• Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (August 2025), commensurate with experience
• Contract: Permanent, Whole-time
