The Role
As a Senior Health Care Assistant at Summerville Healthcare, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred care to residents in line with established care plans. In addition to direct care duties, you will bring supervisory experience and leadership to the floor, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive, safe care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care to residents in accordance with individualised care plans.
- Supervise and support junior Health Care Assistants on shift.
- Report accurately and efficiently to nursing staff on resident condition and needs.
- Follow all instructions and protocols as directed by the care team.
- Maintain a flexible and reliable approach to shift scheduling and coverage.
- Uphold the dignity, privacy, and comfort of all residents at all times.
Requirements
- QQI / FETAC Level 5 qualification in Healthcare or Healthcare Support (preferred).
- Minimum two years’ experience as a Health Care Assistant in a nursing home setting; Senior Health Care Assistant experience is a distinct advantage.
- Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Genuine care and empathy for older people and those with complex needs.
- Responsible, reliable, and trustworthy character.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to report efficiently.
- Full driving licence (preferred).
- Provision of two satisfactory references.
- Valid permission to work in Ireland — candidates must hold current work authorisation.
Location
This position is based at Summerville Healthcare in Strandhill, County Sligo — a coastal village just five kilometres from Sligo city, known for its strong community spirit. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Strandhill or be willing to relocate prior to commencing employment. This is a fully on-site, in-person role.
Salary and Employment Details
