University Hospital Limerick is recruiting a Senior House Officer (SHO) in General and Breast Surgery for the July 2026 NCHD rotation. This fixed-term, whole-time role offers hands-on surgical experience within a busy tertiary setting, supporting both elective and emergency services across general and breast surgery.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver day-to-day clinical care to surgical inpatients and outpatients
• Participate in ward rounds, theatres, clinics, and on-call rotas
• Assist consultants and registrars in operative and peri-operative care
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical audits
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and discharge summaries
• Support junior colleagues and medical students as required
• Adhere to HSE clinical governance, patient safety, and infection control standards
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Active Irish Medical Council (IMC) registration (number must be clearly stated)
• Relevant experience in General and/or Breast Surgery
• Availability to commence duty on 13 July 2026
• English language competency (OET/IELTS where applicable)
• Membership examinations desirable
• Inactive or pending IMC registrations will not be accepted

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (Senior House Officer scale, point dependent)
• Contract: Fixed Term, Whole-Time
• Benefits: Public service pension, annual leave, paid training time, structured supervision
• Working Hours: As per NCHD rota, including on-call commitments
