An exceptional dual clinical–academic opportunity is available for a Senior Lecturer / Consultant General Paediatrician based at Cork University Hospital in partnership with University College Cork. This permanent post combines consultant-level paediatric practice with senior academic leadership, teaching, and research in a leading Irish teaching hospital environment.

The role is ideally suited to an experienced paediatrician seeking to shape national paediatric allergy and immunology services while contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-led care for children presenting with the full spectrum of allergy-related paediatric illnesses
• Lead the development of a supra-regional paediatric allergy and immunology service
• Deliver inpatient and outpatient paediatric services within a multidisciplinary team
• Contribute to acute unscheduled paediatric care, including consultant-of-the-week and on-call rotas
• Deliver weekly general paediatric teaching clinics for undergraduate medical students
• Lead curriculum development in paediatrics and paediatric allergy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research and lead original clinical research programmes
• Secure external research funding and develop a focused clinical research team
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Paediatrics
• Eligibility for appointment as Consultant Paediatrician under HSE criteria
• Significant experience in general paediatrics with expertise in allergy and immunology
• Proven record in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching
• Demonstrated research output with experience securing external funding
• Strong leadership, governance, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
• Ability to meet academic criteria for Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor level
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary in line with Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023
• Annual salary scale (from 1 August 2025): €233,527 – €280,513
• Whole-time, permanent and pensionable appointment
• Standard working week: 37 hours
• Annual leave entitlement: 30 working days per annum

Location & Employer Information
This role is based in Cork, primarily at Cork University Hospital, Ireland’s largest regional paediatric centre and only Level 1 trauma centre, with academic duties delivered through University College Cork’s School of Medicine. The post supports the HSE South West Region and aligns with national clinical programmes and health policy.
The hospital campus includes advanced paediatric facilities, a designated Clinical Trials Centre, and the INFANT Discovery Centre, with a new purpose-built Children’s Unit scheduled to commence construction in 2026.
