An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Medical Scientist (Microbiology) to join the laboratory services at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. This role plays a vital part in delivering a high-quality, efficient diagnostic microbiology service supporting consultants, clinicians, patients, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities
• Participate in the delivery of a comprehensive diagnostic microbiology service
• Ensure high standards of quality, accuracy, and turnaround times in laboratory testing
• Supervise, support, and mentor Medical Scientists and support staff
• Contribute to quality assurance, accreditation, and audit processes
• Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and health & safety standards
• Collaborate closely with consultants, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in service development and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Eligible for registration as a Medical Scientist with CORU
• Relevant postgraduate experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems and laboratory accreditation standards
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
• Experience working in an acute hospital laboratory setting is desirable
