Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Physicist to join the Medical Physics service at University Hospital Limerick. This role is central to ensuring the safety, quality, and performance of diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine services across the HSE Mid West.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and perform QA testing and commissioning of X-ray and Nuclear Medicine equipment
• Act as Medical Physics Expert (MPE) support for diagnostic radiology and imaging physics
• Ensure compliance with radiation protection legislation and best practice standards
• Provide expert advice to clinical, technical, and management teams
• Contribute to service development, audits, and continuous quality improvement
• Support training and supervision of junior physics staff

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Degree (Level 8 or higher) in Physics or equivalent relevant discipline
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in QA testing and commissioning of diagnostic imaging equipment
• Registration as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) with the Irish College of Physicists in Medicine (ICPM) in:
• Diagnostic Radiology and Imaging Physics and/or
• Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics
• OR sufficient knowledge and experience to apply for ICPM registration within 12 months
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
