HSE South West is recruiting Health Care Assistants for Residential Older Persons Services across six community hospitals and nursing units in County Kerry. These are permanent positions — both wholetime and part-time — offering a rewarding career supporting older adults in community-based residential settings throughout the Kerry Integrated Healthcare Area.
About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant within the Residential Older Persons Services, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred care to residents in HSE community hospitals and nursing units across County Kerry. You will play a vital role in supporting the daily living needs, comfort, dignity, and wellbeing of older persons in a residential care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality personal care to residents in accordance with individual care plans, promoting dignity, independence, and comfort at all times.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and hydration.
- Observe and report changes in residents’ condition or behaviour to nursing staff, contributing to accurate care records.
- Support the safe moving and handling of residents in line with manual handling guidelines.
- Contribute positively to the social and recreational activities of the unit, fostering a warm and supportive environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and infection-controlled working environment in line with HSE policies and procedures.
- Communicate sensitively and effectively with residents, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Adhere to all HSE policies, standards, and guidelines relevant to residential care services.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria as set out in the Health Care Assistant (Grade Code 6075) Job Specification. This typically includes a relevant QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support (or equivalent), a genuine commitment to the care of older persons, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Salary
€36,651 – €45,939 per annum (HSE Health Care Assistant Grade 6075 scale, 9-point scale, based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026). Salary is pro-rata for part-time posts in proportion to hours worked.
