University Hospital Limerick is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (Diabetes) to join its Medicine Directorate on a permanent part-time basis. This specialist nursing role offers an excellent opportunity to deliver expert diabetes care, support multidisciplinary teams, promote evidence-based practice, and improve patient outcomes within one of Ireland’s largest acute hospitals.
Role Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Diabetes) will provide advanced clinical expertise in the assessment, management, education, and ongoing care of patients living with diabetes. Working collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, the successful candidate will help enhance diabetes services while supporting high standards of patient-centred care throughout University Hospital Limerick.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist clinical care for patients with diabetes.
- Provide expert advice and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in patient education and self-management programmes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.
- Support service development, audit, and clinical governance initiatives.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and professional standards.
Requirements
- Eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Meet the HSE eligibility requirements for the grade of Clinical Nurse Specialist (General).
- Relevant clinical experience in diabetes nursing.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Salary
€62,699 – €76,921 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) Grade 2632 salary scale, 11-point scale, plus Long Service Increment where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. As this is a permanent part-time position, salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis in accordance with hours worked.
Location
This position is based at University Hospital Limerick, one of the principal acute hospitals within HSE Mid West, serving the communities of Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. The successful candidate will contribute to specialist diabetes services supporting high-quality patient care across the region.
