Job Overview

The HSE South West is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist Cork to join Adult Learning Disability Mental Health Services in Cork South Lee. This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape specialist psychiatric services for adults with learning disabilities while contributing to service development, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

This permanent wholetime role offers the opportunity to work at consultant level within a progressive regional mental health service committed to clinical excellence, patient-centred care, and service innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with learning disabilities.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary teams within Adult Mental Health Services.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care in line with national standards.
  • Contribute to service planning, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to training and education programmes.
  • Engage in clinical governance, risk management and service evaluation activities.
  • Collaborate with community services, primary care and voluntary organisations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Full registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (Psychiatry).
  • Specialist training and experience in Learning Disability Psychiatry.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at consultant or equivalent level.
  • Strong multidisciplinary team working and communication skills.
  • Commitment to service development, teaching and continuous professional development.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.
