The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting a Candidate Clinical Midwife Specialist (cCMS) in Early Pregnancy Bereavement Loss to join services in Galway within the HSE West and North West region. This specified purpose, wholetime role supports women and families experiencing pregnancy loss while contributing to the ongoing development of specialist midwifery services. Applicants from both HSE and non-HSE backgrounds are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based clinical care relating to early pregnancy bereavement and loss
• Support patients and families through assessment, counselling, education, and care coordination
• Rotate across relevant clinical areas in line with service needs
• Undertake required training, including 1st Trimester Ultrasound scanning
• Engage in service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities
• Participate in multidisciplinary teamwork and contribute to CMS role development
• Travel between sites as required and maintain visibility across service locations
• Formally apply for entry onto the Interim ONMSD CMS database
• Undertake or commit to completing prescribed Nurse Prescribing Certificates (Medicinal Products and Ionising Radiation)
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered Midwife on the NMBI Register
• Experience in early pregnancy care, women’s health, or bereavement services
• Strong communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams
• Flexibility to rotate and travel across locations as service demands
• Commitment to completing mandatory education and certification requirements
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to service development and quality initiatives
