The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking applications for the position of Clinical Nurse Specialist (Drugs and Alcohol Service) based at Sligo University Hospital. This permanent, whole-time post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of specialist addiction services within HSE West and North West. The post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide specialist nursing care and clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for individuals affected by drug and alcohol misuse.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support recovery-focused care.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical policies.
• Act as a resource and support for staff, patients, and families within the Drugs and Alcohol Service.
• Promote best practices in harm reduction, patient education, and rehabilitation services.
• Participate in service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with An Bord Altranais (NMBI).
• Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in a relevant clinical area.
• Postgraduate qualification in addictions, mental health, or related discipline (desirable).
• Demonstrated ability in clinical leadership, communication, and patient advocacy.
• Strong knowledge of HSE clinical governance and care pathways.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) – Code 2632.
• Salary Scale (effective from 1 August 2025): €60,720 – €77,142 per annum, per HSE Consolidated Salary Scales.
