The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting a Health & Social Care Assistant (Therapy Assistant), Grade 6019, for Letterkenny University Hospital, Co. Donegal. This permanent wholetime role sits within the Patient and Client Care category and supports Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services. The post is open to both current HSE staff and external applicants.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists in delivering safe, effective, person-centred care to patients in Letterkenny University Hospital.
• Assist with individual and group therapy sessions, including setting up treatment areas and preparing equipment and materials.
• Support patients with mobility, transfers, exercise programmes and activities of daily living, following guidance from qualified therapists.
• Encourage and motivate patients to participate actively in their rehabilitation and promote independence where appropriate.
• Monitor patients during therapy sessions, observe and promptly report any changes in condition or concerns to the supervising therapist or nurse.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including cleaning and storing equipment and treatment areas in line with HSE policies.
• Assist with administrative and clerical tasks related to therapy services, such as scheduling, filing, basic data entry and maintaining patient-related documentation.
• Liaise effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including nursing, medical, social work and other Health and Social Care Professionals.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development activities within the department.
• Contribute to a respectful, compassionate and inclusive environment for patients, families, carers and colleagues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Relevant recognised qualification in health or social care (for example QQI Level 5 or equivalent), or other suitable qualification as specified in the full HSE job description.
• Experience working in a healthcare, social care, rehabilitation or hospital setting is highly desirable.
• Genuine interest in patient care, rehabilitation and supporting people to maintain or improve their independence.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, follow instructions and work safely in a busy clinical environment.
• Commitment to upholding HSE values, including respect, compassion, excellence and accountability.
• Basic IT skills for working with email, electronic records and HSE systems as required.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing service needs within the HSE West and North West region.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Grade: Health & Social Care Assistant (Therapy Assistant) 6019.
• Salary: HSE Consolidated Salary Scale as of 1 August 2025, currently from approximately €35,788 to €44,984 per annum (9-point scale), pro rata where applicable, in line with Department of Health Circulars and HSE pay policy.
• Contract type: Permanent Wholetime.
• Working pattern: Full-time hours in line with HSE wholetime arrangements; specific rosters and shift patterns will be confirmed at job offer stage.
• Benefits: Public sector pension and benefits in accordance with HSE and national public service regulations, including annual leave and other entitlements as per HSE terms and conditions.
• All pay and conditions are governed by the national consolidated salary scales and relevant public service agreements.
