We are seeking a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic Acute Services team at Wexford General Hospital, providing vital support in a fast-paced hospital environment.
About the Role
As a Healthcare Assistant in Acute Services at Wexford General Hospital, you will play a crucial role in supporting patient care and clinical operations. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced nursing and medical professionals in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the community of Wexford and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care support under the supervision of qualified nursing staff in acute care settings
- Assist with patient mobility, transfers, and positioning to ensure comfort and safety
- Support patients with activities of daily living including personal hygiene and meal assistance
- Monitor and record vital signs, patient observations, and changes in condition
- Maintain accurate documentation and patient records in accordance with hospital protocols
- Ensure infection prevention and control measures are consistently applied
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of clinical environments and equipment
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- QQI Level 5 certification in Healthcare Support or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 1 year experience in healthcare support or patient care environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interaction
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Physical capability to perform manual handling and mobility assistance tasks
- Current knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in acute hospital settings or emergency care environments
- Additional training in manual handling and patient mobility techniques
- Basic life support certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience with electronic health records and documentation systems
