The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking an experienced Nurse Lead to support the National Gender Healthcare Programme on a fixed term, part-time secondment. Working nationally, you will provide advanced clinical leadership, governance, and service development for gender-affirming healthcare in line with HSE policy and best practice. This secondment is grade-for-grade; existing terms and conditions are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead clinical governance and quality improvement across the Gender Healthcare Programme, ensuring person-centred, evidence-based care
• Provide expert advice, consultation and clinical decision-making support to multidisciplinary teams nationwide
• Develop, implement and audit care pathways, protocols and outcome measures for gender-affirming services
• Coordinate workforce planning, education and supervision for nurses and wider MDT involved in gender healthcare
• Partner with service users, families, advocacy groups and community services to support inclusive access and continuity of care
• Contribute to national reporting, performance metrics and service improvement plans
• Support change management, risk management and incident learning processes
• Represent the Programme at internal and external forums; liaise with CHOs, Hospital Groups and national clinical leaders
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Current NMBI registration and eligibility to work in Ireland
• Senior nursing experience with proven leadership at ANP/ADON/CNS/CNM level or above
• Demonstrable expertise in complex care coordination, safeguarding, and integrated care pathways
• Strong knowledge of gender-affirming healthcare, national policy, and best-practice guidelines
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and change management skills
• Track record in service development, audit/quality improvement and clinical governance
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (desirable)
• Experience supervising or educating nursing teams (desirable)
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Employment Type: Fixed Term, Part-Time (Secondment; grade for grade)
• Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025) and existing T&Cs for secondments
• Benefits: Public sector pension (as applicable), leave and allowances as per HSE policy
