The Health Service Executive (HSE) is inviting applications for the permanent, whole-time position of Paediatric Staff Nurse (Emergency Department/Altra Foirne Do Leanaí) at Mayo University Hospital. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to deliver high-quality nursing care to children in an acute hospital environment within the HSE West and North West region.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver safe and effective nursing care to paediatric patients in the emergency department.
• Perform clinical assessments, interventions, and ongoing observations.
• Administer medications in accordance with HSE protocols and best practices.
• Support ward management, patient flow, and team coordination.
• Maintain documentation and uphold standards of clinical governance and risk management.
• Contribute to quality improvement and infection control initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered Children’s Nurse (RCN) with NMBI or eligibility for registration.
• Minimum of 1 year’s experience in an acute hospital setting.
• Demonstrated competence across key nursing procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge of medication management, patient safety, and health governance.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.

• Salary in line with HSE consolidated pay scales for Children Staff Nurse 2136 (effective from 1 August 2025, per Department of Health Circular 6/2025).
