Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) is recruiting a Senior Clinical Paediatric Psychologist (Grade: Psychologist – Senior Clinical 367Y) to join its paediatric services in Dublin South. This permanent wholetime post will play a key role in providing specialist psychological assessment and intervention to children, young people and their families within a multidisciplinary team.

This opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants. The HSE is advertising this post on behalf of a publicly funded Section 38 organisation. The role is not directly with the HSE and the specific terms and conditions may differ from standard HSE contracts.

This is an urgent-to-fill position with a planned start date of February 2026, offering the opportunity to contribute to high-quality, child-centred care across CHI sites in the Dublin and South East region.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical psychology assessment and formulation for children and young people with complex presentations, using a range of psychometric, neuropsychological and observational methods.
• Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions to children, young people and families, including individual, group and systemic approaches as appropriate to the service.
• Offer psychological input as a core member of a multidisciplinary paediatric team, contributing to case discussions, care planning and review meetings.
• Provide specialist consultation, advice and support to colleagues in paediatrics, nursing, allied health and other disciplines on the psychological aspects of care.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of service pathways, protocols and quality improvement initiatives within the department and wider CHI services.
• Engage in clinical supervision (both receiving and providing, as appropriate) in line with professional guidelines and service requirements.
• Participate in audit, service evaluation and research activity to support best practice and continuous service development.
• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with professional, legal and organisational standards.
• Contribute to teaching, training and education for internal and external stakeholders on child and adolescent psychological issues.
• Work in line with Children First, child protection procedures, data protection/GDPR requirements and all relevant CHI and national policies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology (Doctorate or equivalent) that is recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or an equivalent body.
• Eligibility for full membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) in the relevant division, or equivalent recognised professional body.
• Significant post-qualification experience working as a clinical psychologist, including substantial experience in child and adolescent or paediatric settings.
• Demonstrated competence in specialist paediatric/child psychology assessment, formulation and intervention for a wide range of developmental, medical and mental health presentations.
• Proven experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a complex healthcare environment.
• Strong skills in consultation, liaison and providing psychological input to non-psychology colleagues and services.
• Evidence of engagement in clinical governance, audit, research or service development activities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and report-writing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with children, families and professional colleagues.
• Commitment to ongoing CPD, reflective practice and adherence to professional ethical standards.
• Candidates must meet all professional registration and eligibility requirements in line with current Irish regulations and any CHI-specific requirements at the time of appointment.

Desirable

• Previous experience in acute paediatrics, paediatric specialty services or tertiary-level child health settings.
• Experience supervising psychologists-in-training or junior psychology staff.
• Training in specialist therapeutic modalities relevant to paediatric populations (e.g. CBT, systemic, ACT, trauma-focused approaches).
• Experience working within the HSE or Section 38 funded services.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Contract type: Permanent Wholetime (full-time).
• Grade: Psychologist – Senior Clinical (Grade Code 367Y).
• Salary: The salary for this post is expected to align with the HSE consolidated salary scale for Senior Clinical Psychologist (367Y) effective from 1 August 2025, with an annual range of approximately €98,503 to €115,784 (8-point scale including Long Service Increments), in line with public sector pay policy and Section 38 arrangements.
• Salary is subject to verification, relevant public sector circulars and the appointee’s existing service and experience.
• Pension: Public sector-aligned superannuation arrangements will apply, in accordance with the organisation’s policies and national regulations.
