Roscommon County Council invites applications for the permanent post of Senior Executive Engineer, a key leadership role within the Local Authority structure. About the Role
The Senior Executive Engineer will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across various service areas, providing technical, managerial, and operational support. The role involves collaboration with internal departments, public representatives, and external agencies to deliver high-quality local authority projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering teams in planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure works.
- Oversee project budgets, procurement, and compliance with statutory and safety regulations.
- Provide expert technical advice to management and elected members.
- Ensure delivery of capital and maintenance programmes within timelines and budgets.
- Liaise with other public bodies, contractors, and consultants on shared initiatives.
- Manage staff performance, mentoring, and professional development.
- Represent the Council at technical meetings and public consultations.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Hold an Engineering qualification (Level 8 or higher) eligible for membership of Engineers Ireland.
- At least five years’ postgraduate experience in civil, structural, environmental, or related engineering fields.
- Proven experience in managing teams and projects within a public sector or local authority setting.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety, procurement, and contract management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng).
- Experience working on local authority capital projects.
- Familiarity with public procurement and local government structures.
