Sligo University Hospital is seeking a dedicated Senior Orthoptist to join its ophthalmology service, supporting high-quality patient assessment and treatment. This is a Specified Purpose Wholetime role within the Health Service Executive (HSE), offering a valuable opportunity to advance your clinical expertise in a busy acute hospital setting.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Provide advanced orthoptic assessment, diagnosis, and management across paediatric and adult caseloads.
• Deliver specialist input within ophthalmology clinics, supporting multidisciplinary pathways of care.
• Lead and contribute to service development initiatives within the Orthoptic Department.
• Offer clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to junior orthoptists and students.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with professional and HSE standards.
• Collaborate with consultants, nursing, and allied health colleagues to streamline patient care.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Recognised qualification in Orthoptics and eligibility for CORU registration.
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Ophthalmology relevant to senior practice.
• Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary aligned to HSE Senior Orthoptist (Grade 3417) consolidated salary scale, in accordance with national pay policy.
• Full-time, specified-purpose contract.
