Sligo University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region, is inviting applications for a permanent, whole-time Staff Nurse (General) within the Acute Assessment Unit. About the Role
As a Staff Nurse – General in the Acute Assessment Unit, you will provide frontline nursing care to patients presenting with acute medical and surgical conditions. Working closely with consultants and allied health professionals, you will play a key role in assessment, monitoring, and rapid intervention within a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred nursing care.
- Support multidisciplinary coordination in acute assessment and admission pathways.
- Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions in line with clinical protocols.
- Assist in implementing care plans, treatments, and patient discharges.
- Maintain infection control, safety, and quality standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the education and support of student and newly qualified nurses.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Demonstrated clinical competence in acute hospital settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
Preferred
- Experience in an Acute Assessment or Emergency Department setting.
- Postgraduate qualifications or CPD in acute or emergency nursing.
- Familiarity with HSE systems and clinical governance structures.
