The Grade VIII Senior Accountant Cork University Hospital role offers an excellent opportunity to lead and influence financial management within a major acute teaching hospital. Based at Cork University Hospital, this senior finance position plays a critical role in ensuring robust governance, financial control, and strategic support across clinical and operational services.

This is a specified purpose, wholetime contract within one of Ireland’s leading healthcare institutions, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes within the Finance Department
Provide expert financial analysis and performance reporting to senior management
Ensure compliance with HSE financial policies, procedures, and public sector pay regulations
Support service managers in financial governance and cost management initiatives
Prepare statutory and internal financial reports as required
Monitor expenditure, identify risks, and implement corrective financial controls
Contribute to strategic financial planning and service development projects
Supervise and support finance team members where appropriate

Required Skills & Qualifications

Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Significant post-qualification experience in a senior finance role
Strong knowledge of public sector financial governance and controls
Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to manage budgets and financial performance frameworks
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience within healthcare or large public sector organisations is desirable
