Senior Medical Social Worker Waterford

University Hospital Waterford is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Social Worker to join its multidisciplinary team on a permanent wholetime basis. This Senior Medical Social Worker Waterford role offers an opportunity to provide specialist psychosocial support within an acute hospital setting while contributing to service development and clinical leadership.

The post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and forms part of the HSE Dublin and North East health region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments and interventions for patients and families within the acute hospital setting
  • Deliver crisis intervention, discharge planning, and safeguarding support as required
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to junior social work staff
  • Contribute to service planning, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE policies and professional standards
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, child protection, and vulnerable adult safeguarding frameworks

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualification in Social Work recognised by CORU
  • Registration with CORU as a Social Worker (or eligible for registration)
  • Significant post-qualification clinical experience in a medical or acute hospital setting
  • Demonstrated experience in complex case management and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Strong knowledge of health, social care, and safeguarding legislation
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide supervision and professional leadership
