University Maternity Hospital Limerick is recruiting a permanent, full-time Staff Nurse (Oncology) to join its nursing team in Limerick. This is an excellent opportunity for a registered general nurse to build a specialist oncology career within the HSE Mid West region.
Role Overview
The Staff Nurse (Oncology) will provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to oncology patients at University Maternity Hospital Limerick. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of safe and effective care in a specialist clinical environment, supporting patients and families throughout their oncology journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care to oncology patients in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments, including chemotherapy, in line with protocols and relevant competencies.
- Monitor and respond to changes in patients’ conditions, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in line with NMBI standards.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
- Participate in clinical supervision, professional development, and mandatory training.
Requirements
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered General Nurse (RGN).
- Relevant post-registration experience in oncology or a related clinical area is desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based, person-centred nursing practice.
- Strong communication, organisational, and clinical assessment skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and on own initiative.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in Ireland.
Salary
€38,166 – €54,956 per annum (HSE Staff Nurse scale, 13-point scale, plus LSI of €56,592 where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
