Job Overview

Atlantic Technological University is seeking to appoint an Assistant Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery Sligo to join its academic team at the Sligo campus. This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality teaching, skills development, and industry-focused training within the construction and built environment disciplines.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering practical and theoretical instruction in carpentry and joinery, supporting student progression, and contributing to programme development within a dynamic higher education environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lectures, workshops, and practical instruction in Carpentry & Joinery programmes.
  • Develop and update teaching materials in line with industry standards and academic requirements.
  • Assess student performance through continuous assessment, practical evaluation, and examinations.
  • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and programme review processes.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and continuous professional development.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance processes, and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain strong links with industry to support programme relevance and student employability.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • An appropriate qualification in Carpentry, Joinery, Construction, or a related discipline (minimum Level 8 or equivalent).
  • Relevant industry experience in carpentry and joinery.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring is desirable.
  • Strong practical knowledge of current industry standards, tools, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an academic team.
  • Commitment to student-centred learning and academic excellence.
