The Clinical Lead NGGO Dublin position offers an exceptional leadership opportunity for a Consultant in Clinical Genetics to shape the future of genomics services in Ireland. This 0.6 WTE (3 days per week) secondment role within the National Genetics and Genomics Office (NGGO) plays a pivotal part in delivering Ireland’s National Strategy for Accelerating Genetic and Genomic Medicine.

Working at a national level, the Clinical Lead will provide strategic clinical advice, guide service development, and act as a key spokesperson for clinical genomics across the Health Service Executive.

Job Overview

The Clinical Lead, National Genetics and Genomics Office (NGGO), will drive the implementation of Ireland’s five-year Genomics Strategy (2025–2029). The postholder will collaborate with hospitals, HSE regions, senior leadership teams, and national stakeholders to advance clinical genomics services, workforce planning, and specialist education initiatives.

This is a fixed-term, part-time secondment role offered on a grade-for-grade basis. Existing terms and conditions will be maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical leadership in genomics at national level.
  • Support implementation of the National Strategy for Accelerating Genetic and Genomic Medicine.
  • Advise the Chief Clinical Officer and HSE Senior Leadership Team on clinical genomics matters.
  • Collaborate with hospitals and HSE regions to enhance clinical genomics services.
  • Contribute to specialist genomic workforce planning and service development.
  • Support education and training initiatives aligned with national strategy goals.
  • Act as medical decision-maker and spokesperson on clinical genomics for the HSE.
  • Engage with patient, public and professional stakeholders to promote integrated genomic care.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered Consultant in Clinical Genetics (Grade 1937).
  • Significant experience in clinical genomics and genetics service delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at senior clinical level.
  • Strong strategic planning and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary and regional healthcare settings.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent clinical perspectives at executive level.
  • Commitment to advancing genomic medicine nationally.

This Clinical Lead NGGO Dublin role is based at the National Genetics and Genomics Office (NGGO), Brunel Building, Heuston South Quarter, Dublin 8.

The NGGO is responsible for coordinating a national approach to genetics and genomics, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing clinical services, and building the specialist workforce required to deliver genomic medicine across Ireland.
