Job Overview
Galway University Hospitals is seeking a highly experienced Clinical Nurse Manager II to join St. Michael’s Ward, specialising in ENT, Ophthalmology, and Breast Surgery. This permanent role offers the opportunity to lead and deliver high-quality surgical patient care within a busy acute hospital environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in service management, staff leadership, and continuous improvement of patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and management within St. Michael’s Ward
- Ensure delivery of high standards of patient-centred surgical care
- Coordinate and supervise nursing staff and allocate resources effectively
- Support service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain compliance with HSE policies and clinical governance standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes
- Manage patient flow and ensure safe and efficient ward operations
- Participate in staff training, mentoring, and performance management
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active registration with NMBI
- Significant experience in surgical nursing within an acute hospital setting
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance and healthcare standards
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage complex clinical environments and workloads
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary scale ranges from €62,078 to €78,443 (including LSI), in line with HSE Clinical Nurse Manager II pay scales. This is a permanent whole-time position offering job security, pension benefits, annual leave entitlement, and access to ongoing professional development within the HSE.
Location & Employer Information
This role is based in Galway University Hospitals, part of the HSE West and North West region. The position is initially located in St. Michael’s Ward, with flexibility required to work across service areas as needed.
