Job Overview

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is seeking to recruit an Engineer Grade III (Fire & Security) to join its Estate Management Division. This permanent Civil Service opportunity offers the chance to work within an in-house consultancy team providing expert fire safety and security guidance across the Government property portfolio.

This Engineer Grade III Fire & Security role provides meaningful professional responsibility, supporting compliance, safety, and regulatory standards across diverse public buildings in Dublin, Meath, and Sligo.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out Fire Safety Assessments of existing buildings within the OPW Property Portfolio.
Conduct site inspections during construction works to ensure compliance with Part B of the Building Regulations.
Monitor compliance with the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations process.
Advise on Fire Safety Certificates and statutory compliance matters.
Assist in the preparation and review of Fire Safety Strategies for Government-occupied buildings.
Provide professional fire safety and security consultancy support within the Estate Management Division.
Report directly to an Engineer Grade II and contribute to cross-functional project teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Relevant engineering qualification in fire safety, building services, civil, mechanical, electrical or a related discipline.
Knowledge of Irish Building Regulations, particularly Part B (Fire Safety).
Understanding of Building Control (Amendment) Regulations processes.
Experience conducting site inspections and technical assessments.
Strong analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
