The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Rehabilitation Coordinator (Speech and Language Therapist – Clinical Specialist, Grade 3025) for St. Finbarr’s Rehabilitation Unit in Cork. Key Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate the speech and language therapy contribution to the rehabilitation pathway at St. Finbarr’s Rehabilitation Unit.
• Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with complex communication and swallowing disorders, often in the context of neurological conditions or frailty.
• Develop, implement and regularly review individualised rehabilitation plans in partnership with service users, families and the wider interdisciplinary team.
• Act as a clinical specialist resource for colleagues, offering expert advice, case discussion and joint working on complex presentations.
• Lead on dysphagia management, including instrumental assessment where available, care planning, staff training and risk management.
• Contribute to service planning, quality improvement and innovation within the unit and the wider HSE South West region.
• Participate in and/or lead clinical audits, outcome measurement and service evaluation to support evidence-based practice.
• Provide supervision, mentoring and professional support to junior Speech and Language Therapists, students and other Health and Social Care Professionals as appropriate.
• Deliver training and education sessions to ward staff, carers and other stakeholders on communication, swallowing and person-centred rehabilitation approaches.
• Maintain accurate, timely and professional clinical records in line with HSE policies, data protection requirements and professional standards.
• Participate in relevant clinical governance structures, incident review, risk management and continuous quality improvement activity.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy that is eligible for registration with CORU (or be currently registered).
• At the time of appointment, full CORU registration (or eligibility for same within HSE timeframes).
• Significant post-qualification experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, including substantial experience in adult neurorehabilitation and/or complex disability.
• Demonstrated specialist clinical expertise in assessment and management of communication disorders and dysphagia in adults.
• Experience of working as part of an interdisciplinary team within an acute, post-acute or rehabilitation setting.
• Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant areas such as neurorehabilitation, dysphagia, cognition and communication, or related specialist fields.
• Proven ability to lead on complex cases, provide clinical supervision and contribute to service development or quality improvement initiatives.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with service users, families and colleagues.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise a complex caseload in a busy rehabilitation environment.
• Familiarity with HSE policies, standards and clinical governance requirements or willingness to quickly gain this knowledge.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: HSE Consolidated Salary Scales – Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Grade 3025), effective 1 August 2025:
– €70,698–€82,040 per annum (9-point scale, incremental in line with HSE rules).
• Contract type: Permanent wholetime (full-time).
• Working hours: Standard HSE full-time hours, with flexibility as required to meet service needs.
