About the Role
University Hospital Limerick is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS Pain Management for a specified purpose wholetime position within HSE Mid West. This specialist nursing opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers the opportunity to contribute to high-quality pain management services and specialist patient care in a major acute hospital setting.
Role Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS Pain Management will contribute specialist nursing expertise to the assessment, management and ongoing support of patients experiencing acute or complex pain. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Limerick, the successful candidate will support evidence-based practice, patient education, clinical collaboration and the development of high-quality pain management services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing input for patients requiring pain assessment and management.
- Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, medical and allied health professionals across relevant clinical services.
- Promote evidence-based approaches to pain management and patient safety.
- Provide education, advice and support to patients, families and healthcare colleagues within the scope of the role.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement and effective multidisciplinary communication.

€57,780 – €68,046 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General) scale, 8-point scale). This salary range is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
