About the Role
The Counsellor will provide psychotherapy/counselling services for adults with an intellectual disability. Reporting to the Head of Psychology Department/Deputy, the role involves working collaboratively with a wider core team, including frontline staff, team leaders, service managers, and colleagues in disciplines such as clinical psychologists, social workers, psychiatry, nursing, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy. The purpose is to ensure a holistic and person-centred approach, working with the wider core team supporting the person. The successful candidate may also provide training sessions to enhance the skills of staff working with people with emotional lability and other needs as may be required from time to time.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a recognised qualification at Level 7 or higher on the NQAI framework in Medicine, relevant Health & Social Care Professionals (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy) or be registered or eligible to be registered as a Nurse with An Bord Altranais. Additionally, an Accredited qualification in counselling or psychotherapy recognised by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a relevant body within the Irish Council for Psychotherapy, or equivalent body in another jurisdiction, of which there is sufficient theoretical content, clinical placements, skills training and personal development as part of the qualification. Or a post-graduate qualification in counselling recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland. A full driving license and use of a car is an essential requirement.
