About the Role

The Dublin and Midlands Health Region is one of six new HSE Health Regions and has responsibility for the planning and co-ordinated delivery of health and social care services within its defined geography. The HSE Dublin and Midlands serves a population of circa 1,077,639 (20.9% of the country’s population) providing health and social care services to communities living within Dublin West, Dublin South-West, Dublin South City, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Kildare, West Wicklow and Westmeath. Currently, approximately 25,684 staff work within the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region providing key health and social care services with a budget of €4 billion. The region has four Integrated Healthcare Areas (IHAs), each serving a population of approximately 300,000 and taking account of local geographies, population size, needs and services. The IHAs are HSE Dublin South City and West, HSE Dublin SouthWest, HSE Kildare and West Wicklow and HSE Midlands. Four Integrated Healthcare Area Managers are in post since October 2024. The HSE Dublin and Midlands health region is divided into 4 healthcare areas: HSE Dublin South City and West, HSE Dublin South West, HSE Kildare West Wicklow, and HSE Midlands. And it will manage and deliver all public health and social care services in: Laois, Longford, Offaly, Dublin South West, Dublin West, Dublin South City, Kildare, West Wicklow, and Westmeath. More than one million people live in this region. Services in the Dublin and Midlands health region include: acute Hospitals, primary care services, older persons services, disability services, mental health services, palliative care services, social inclusion services, public and private providers, health and social care professionals, voluntary sector services, public health, and national ambulance services. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is that the Post Holder will take any and all measures that will ensure that Laboratory tests are performed and reported within a Quality Management framework and that the Department operates to the requirements of ISO 15189: 2022 ‘Medical Laboratories Particular Requirements for quality and Competence’ and to Best Practice as to ensure Quality and Safety of the Biochemistry service provided. The purpose of the post is to perform, routine, specialized, and research and development testing to the highest professional standards for the greater need of the patients.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria: Qualifications and/ or experience: 2026 Graduates. Candidates who are graduating as Medical Scientists in 2026 are eligible to apply for this campaign. Please note: applicants who are successful at interview will not be offered a post until compliant with the eligibility criteria below. For Medical Scientist Candidates for appointment must: (i) Be registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU. See https://coru.ie/aboutus/registration-boards/medical-scientists-registration-board/apply-forregistration/ AND (viii) Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development. AND Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Annual registration: (i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU. And (ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC). Health: Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Character: Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character. Post Specifics: Demonstrate depth and breadth of post qualification experience in the field of Clinical Chemistry.
