About the Role

Purpose of the Role:

The post holder will have responsibility for best practice in Haemovigilance and Traceability of blood and blood components by:

  • Operation of the Haemovigilance Function as documented in Haemovigilance Procedures and ensuring that all Haemovigilance practice in the clinical area meets with recognized policies, guidelines and the standards expected within the EU Directive 2002/98/EC and ISO 15189.
  • Reporting of serious adverse events/reactions to appropriate bodies
  • Ensuring tracing of blood and blood components as documented in the relevant procedures
  • Training in the continued Implementation of Blood Track Phase 3
  • Ensuring that the procedure for prescription of blood and blood components is followed by relevant staff
  • Lead the professional organization and management of a blood products program.
  • Promote open communication throughout the hospital.
  • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the hospital and the ethical code of the Hospital.
  • Comply with duties imposed on all employees by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.

Requirements

Clinical Nurse Manager 2 candidate must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse
  • Have 5 years Post Registration Nursing experience
  • Hold a degree/Masters in nursing
  • Excellent organisational, written and interpersonal communication skills

Or

Senior medical scientist candidate must possess:

  • The Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) from the Technological University Dublin, Kevin Street; or University College Cork or Galway Mayo Institute of Technology
  • or
  • The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or the Cork Institute of Technology awarded prior to 1994
  • or
  • A recognized qualification at least equivalent to (a) or (b) above
  • A post graduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science
  • Possess or be eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
  • Be registered or with CORU OR Be currently registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Possess four years’ experience in a medical laboratory since qualifying as a Medical Scientist
