Role Overview
As Phlebotomist, you will be a key point of patient contact, preparing patients for blood draws, carrying out routine and CDM bloods, and ensuring every sample is accurately labelled and recorded. The role calls for precision, strong communication skills, and a consistent commitment to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing patients before drawing blood
- Explaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process
- Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas
- Gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes
- Verifying patient information and labelling blood samples properly
- Accurately updating patient information in the organisation’s database
- Carrying out routine bloods and CDM (Chronic Disease Management) bloods
Requirements
- Recognised phlebotomy training or equivalent relevant clinical experience
- Demonstrated competence in venepuncture across a range of patient groups
- Familiarity with routine and CDM blood profiles
- Strong attention to detail in sample labelling, verification, and record-keeping
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a patient-centred approach
- Working knowledge of infection prevention and control standards
