There is currently a 0.5 WTE Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in ENT Vestibular services available on a specified purpose contract for six months. The initial base for this post is University Hospital Limerick.
Successful Candidates may be required to work in other service areas in the acute services HSE Mid West as the need requires.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign, from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled for the HSE Mid West.
Requirements
Reporting Relationship:
- The post holder will report to the Physiotherapy Manager for physiotherapy clinical governance, attendance and service performance management.
- The post holder will report to ENT Consultant for clinical governance in triage, advanced practice remit and service performance management.

HSE Mid West
The newly established HSE Mid West Health Region will manage and deliver all public health and social care services for Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary serving a population of over 413,059 people. The redesign of services will allow new pathways to be developed between acute hospitals, community services, primary care, health & wellbeing and voluntary sectors to develop more integrated, patient-centred care. HSE Mid-West includes all hospital, community healthcare and public health services in the region. This includes:
- University Hospital Limerick
- University Maternity Hospital Limerick
- Ennis Hospital
- Nenagh Hospital
- Croom Hospital
- St John’s Hospital (voluntary)
This post will be located in the UHL with ENT OPD Clinics and treatment sessions based in the University Hospital Limerick. This is an appointment to the Acute Hospital setting, with service delivery in the Acute setting initially with potential to expand to community outreach clinics based on service demands.
This post is part of the Modernised Care Programme which was established to ensure a coherent and co-ordinated process to improve access targets set out in the Slaintecare programme.
The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will work as a first contact practitioner at an advanced level in physiotherapy practice in line with competency level and scope of practice.

- What are the principal duties and responsibilities?
- The Physiotherapist, Clinical Specialist ENT Vestibular will: Act as first contact practitioner to perform a comprehensive assessment as part of the ENT team or patients with vestibular pathologies post triage by the ENT consultant. In ENT Vestibular OPD clinic, undertake a comprehensive assessment to include in-depth Vestibular and balance examination, and appropriate neurological and MSK examination. Identify patients with red flag and/or suspicious symptoms and potential serious life-threatening pathologies, and to adhere to relevant pathways of care, as agreed with relevant consultant. Identify patients requiring further investigations/intervention and consult with relevant audiologist / consultant and/or GP teams to arrange onward referral as necessary. Follow up with further investigations and results, in line with the agreed pathway of care, and within Physiotherapy scope of practice. Write up a comprehensive report of the assessment, medical history, investigations, interventions and outcome in conjunction with the Clinical Specialist Audiologist, for review by the ENT Consultant. This report may be included by the Consultant in the communication of the clinical decision/patient outcome to the relevant referrer. Record patient clinical outcomes and return service data as required. Achieve the Achieve agreed KPIs. Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary. Work with relevant stakeholders to develop Integrated Care Pathways for patients with Vestibular presentations. Provide education in the treatment of patients with ENT Vestibular complaints. Comply with the Physiotherapist Registration Board (PRB) at CORU, Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, regarding all professional standards, including relevant Continuous Professional Development.
