About the Role

The Regional Road Safety Engineer will assist in implementing the EU Directive 2008/96/EC on Road Infrastructure Safety Management (RISM). The role involves several key duties including:

  • Assisting in preparing feasibility reports to obtain approval from TII for final designs
  • Preparing design briefs for local authorities and engagement of consultants from TII road safety frameworks
  • Providing expertise to local authority engineers on road safety matters
  • Training local authority engineers in using the national collision database and road safety engineering techniques
  • Working collaboratively with team members in TII Road Safety Section, the NRO Regional Road Safety Engineering Team, and other TII divisions

Details

The role is based in Kerry, with a population of approximately 156,500 people. Kerry County Council is responsible for delivering a full range of local government services in the county. The salary scale is effective from 1st June 2026 and is €80,680 - €83,153 - €84,338 - €86,828 - €89,339 - €91,842 - €94,364 - €97,533 (LSI 1) - €100,692 (LSI2).

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.

The annual leave allowance for the position of Regional Road Safety Engineer is 30 days.
