About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Fire Officer, the Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer will lead a team and undertake duties in Fire Service Operations, Technical Fire Safety/Fire Prevention, Community Fire Safety, and Emergency Management. The role involves managing staff and undertaking the role of Rostered Senior Fire Officer at operational incidents. The Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer is responsible for managing the service delivery and development of functions in areas delegated by the Chief Fire Officer. The role requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services, local government structures, and current local government issues. Main Duties of the Job

  • Manage Health & Safety in Meath County Council Fire and Rescue Service including training, policy development, and continuous improvement of the Occupational Health & Safety management system.
  • Lead, manage, and develop effective teams through strong motivation, communication, and collaboration.
  • Supervise staff and adhere to Meath County Council’s human resources and industrial relations policies, including staff assignment, training and development, supporting career progression, grievance and disciplinary procedures, consultation and good communications.
  • Deliver projects in support of fire services operations, including effective mobilisation to incidents, effective communications, protection of safety, health and welfare of firefighters, maintenance and care of equipment and fire fleet, incident reporting and investigation, and critical incident stress management.

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.
