About the Role

Meath County Council is seeking a Senior Executive Planner to support the expansion and development of the Council’s Planning Department. This role involves strategic policy delivery across Development Management, Forward Planning, and Project Delivery, as well as strengthening the Council’s approach to Planning Enforcement. The position also contributes to a multi-disciplinary approach to Climate Action, Active Travel, and Sustainable Transport in the county.

The Senior Executive Planner will work closely with the Senior Management Team and Elected Members to deliver services, implement local policy decisions, and achieve strategic corporate objectives. The role is based in Meath.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Prepare and implement development plan documents and prepare reports on these matters for the appropriate Committees of the Council.
  • Consider new and emerging national planning policy and development plans being prepared by adjoining local authorities, assess implications for the Council and respond to these proposals as required.
  • Interact with Planning Authorities in matters related to preparation of Development Plans, Variations, etc.
  • Liaise and work with constituent planning authorities and other public authorities on all aspects of implementation.
  • Monitor and report on implementation progress.
  • Monitor and assist with development plan preparation/reviews.

The Council is one of the county’s major employers, currently employing approximately 1,060 staff. The Council’s Revenue Budget for 2026 is €258m and its 3-year rolling Capital Programme 2026-2028 has an estimated spend of €1.24b.

The indicative HSE pay scale for this grade is €83,496–€100,706 per year. The annual leave allowance for the position of Senior Executive Planner is 30 days. Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.
