About the Role

A unique opportunity to work as part of a team using the ‘Good Lives Model’ as a Social Care Worker in Cork City, County Cork. The role is permanent and full-time, with 78 hours per fortnight, which may include sleep-in duties. The position is based in two centres within a 20km radius of Cork City. A panel may also be formed as a result of this process to fill vacancies as they arise in the coming year.

The person/s appointed to the residential services will be very flexible in their approach to service provision and have the ability to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a team. He/she will work to the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity ensuring the needs of the people supported are being met by them as directed by the Person in Charge. The model of Service will be based on the Good Lives Model. The successful candidate ideally should have a good working knowledge of Clinical Risk Management and in the identified planning systems or in the management of Services for persons with complex/ behavioural support needs.

Reporting to the Social Care Leader / Person in Charge.

Requirements

  • Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Have a Schedule 3 qualification or a comparable qualification recognised by Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, must submit proof of application for registration with the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience of working with persons with an intellectual disability/autism in a Residential setting is essential.
  • Experience of working with Adults with behaviour that challenges is essential.
  • Commitment to the principles of social inclusion and community integration is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of flexibility is essential.
  • Experience of using alternative communication methods is essential.
  • Previous experience and understanding of how to support individuals with very specific needs and/or clinical support requirements and a clear understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines is essential.
  • Knowledge of the Good Lives model of service and ARMADILLO risk review process is desirable.
  • Have a full clean Driver’s licence which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads as driving of service vehicles is a requirement for this role.
